CR2032 Lithium Coin Cell Battery for Low-Power Electronics
The CR2032 Lithium Coin Cell Battery is a compact primary battery designed for electronic products that require a small size, a 3.0V nominal voltage, and long-term low-current operation. It uses lithium manganese dioxide chemistry, commonly written as Li/MnO₂, and must not be recharged.
This CR2032 battery has a nominal capacity of 230 mAh when continuously discharged through a 15 kΩ load to a 2.0V cut-off voltage at 23°C ± 3°C. Its nominal energy is approximately 0.69Wh.
With a diameter of 20.0mm and a height of 3.2mm, the battery fits standard CR2032-compatible compartments and holders. Equipment designers should still confirm terminal contact pressure, polarity, battery-compartment dimensions, operating current, pulse demand, and minimum operating voltage before production.
Zenilove also supplies other button battery products for compact electronics, memory backup, sensors, measuring equipment, and application-specific OEM projects.
Electrical Characteristics of the CR2032 Battery 3V
The CR2032 Battery 3V provides a nominal voltage of 3.0V. This value does not mean that the battery produces a regulated or constant 3V output. Actual terminal voltage changes according to the remaining capacity, load current, operating temperature, discharge time, and device cut-off voltage.
The product is intended mainly for low-current applications. The listed maximum pulse current and maximum continuous discharge current are conditional values rather than guaranteed operating values for every application.
Before using the CR2032 lithium battery in equipment with wireless transmission, alarms, displays, or other pulse loads, confirm:
- Pulse-current duration
- Recovery interval between pulses
- Minimum equipment voltage
- Ambient temperature
- Required operating life
- Standby-current consumption
- Contact resistance
- Discharge cut-off voltage
Device-level testing should be completed before the battery is approved for mass production.
Lithium Manganese Dioxide Coin Cell Construction
This 3V lithium coin cell battery uses manganese dioxide as the positive electrode and lithium as the negative electrode. It also includes an organic electrolyte, separator, sealing components, and a stainless-steel casing.
The stainless-steel casing provides a compact mechanical structure for standard coin-cell applications. The marked upper surface is the positive terminal, while the lower surface is the negative terminal.
The CR2032 button battery must be installed with the correct polarity. Reverse installation, external short circuits, forced discharge, overheating, direct uncontrolled soldering, and attempted charging may damage the battery or connected equipment.
The product design, marking, testing, and intended use should also be reviewed against applicable primary-lithium-battery requirements, including the official IEC 60086-4 safety requirements, when the relevant market or project requires them.
Applications for a CR2032 Coin Cell Battery
The CR2032 coin cell battery is commonly evaluated for compact devices that operate with low average current and occasional controlled pulse loads.
Typical applications include:
- Real-time clock backup
- CMOS memory backup
- Key fobs
- Remote controls
- Digital thermometers
- Small measuring instruments
- IoT sensors
- Security sensors
- Electronic scales
- Calculators
- Small LED indicators
- Asset-tracking devices
Application suitability depends on the complete current profile rather than battery size alone. Equipment with frequent or extended high-current pulses may require additional testing, changes to the operating cycle, or a different battery model.
Storage and Operating Conditions
The specified operating-temperature range is −20°C to +60°C. Available capacity, internal resistance, pulse performance, and service life may change near the upper and lower temperature limits.
Store the CR2032 battery in a dry, ventilated environment away from direct sunlight, high humidity, conductive materials, and heat sources. Keep individual cells separated from metal parts that could connect the positive and negative terminals.
The listed annual self-discharge rate of no more than 3% applies under specified storage conditions. Actual storage life also depends on temperature, humidity, packaging, initial cell condition, and the minimum operating voltage of the connected device.
A fixed ten-year shelf life should not be stated unless the approved product specification defines the storage conditions, remaining-capacity requirement, packaging method, and evaluation standard.
Custom CR2032 Battery Options
Zenilove can provide CR2032 battery configurations for OEM equipment, electronic assemblies, and bulk procurement projects. Available options may include:
- Printed battery labels
- Private-label packaging
- Blister packaging
- Tray packaging
- Solder tabs
- Axial or radial terminals
- Wire leads
- Custom connectors
- Battery holders
- Insulation materials
- Polarity marking
- Lot and date coding
- Project-specific inspection requirements
A standard bare CR2032 cell should not be soldered directly using uncontrolled heat. Projects requiring PCB installation should use an approved tabbed version, battery holder, or preassembled lead-wire configuration.
Before sample production, provide the terminal drawing, installation space, operating current, pulse profile, expected service life, packaging request, annual quantity, target market, and required compliance documents. These details help determine whether the standard CR2032 Lithium Coin Cell Battery or a customized terminal and packaging configuration is more suitable.
